The Lesson is divided into 5 Activities:
Lesson Activities:
- Water Cycle Sidewalk-Chalk Pre-Assessment
- Pre-Assessment Instructions
- The Water Cycle Game (The Incredible Journey)
- Water-Cycle Game Instructions
- Water Cycle Game Data Analysis
- Find student handout "Incredible Journey Travel Log" under "Student Handouts"
- Water Cycle Labeling (on laminated sheets in kit)
- Water Cycle Essay Post-Assessment
BONUS VIDEO (Optional): In this 6-minute video, students see how scientists and engineers, including Greg Characklis at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, are studying the connections between water, food, and energy in the human water cycle to develop new, sustainable ways of meeting our water needs.
|
Pre-Assessment:
Water Cycle Game:
- Nine special cubes or die with movement instructions (download and print these files)
- Nine station illustrations or signs (download and print these files)
- A timer
- Any noisemaker, such as a bell or whistle
- Nine different colors of beads or paper strips (other than black)
- Something to string the beads on as they're collected.
|
Activity #5 of this lesson is a great way to check for understanding:
- Have students write an essay describing the water cycle and how water can take different paths through the cycle or they can use their own trackers to write creative story about the places water might visit in its movements.
